Best Wine In Show - Geelong Wine Show

SHIRAZ SEALS WIN AT WINE SHOW!
A Shiraz produced by Leura Park Estate at Curlewis has been named the best wine in Geelong.

Prevailing over about 200 entrants, Leura Park's Yes said the Seal variety was given the top gong at the Geelong Wine Show awards in Fyansford on Saturday night.

Leura Park wine maker Darren Burke, who has worked at the venue for a decade, said the winning wine was 2018 vintage and produced from grapes grown on the Bellarine Peninsula.

"It's a wine...that is sweet, (has) quite a log of spice and a hint of pepper that the Bellarine regional is renowned for" he said.

"It's very spot, silky and very easy to drink, partly because it's a three-year old wine now"

Mr Burke, a winemaker with experience working at an Italian winery in Tuscany, said the Yes said the Seal brand was first released in 2014 and had been tinkered with since.

“We do tinker with things every year, we’re always trying to make it better” he said.

“We talk about (figuratively) adding salt and pepper to the wine. It’s about adding layers and building complexity, always striving for that extra bit of flavour or texture to make the wine stand out more.

“Every year presents a new challenge because every growing season is different”
